Gene and Marge Paccione thought that maybe the soil had something to do with the sickly look of the juniper trees on their Phenix Avenue property, so they joined others to have soil samples tested Saturday by URI Master Gardeners at the Warwick Public Library. Master Gardener Bobbie Jo Gemma said Ocean State soils tend to be sandy and need the enrichment of biodegradable material. One of the first things she tested was the ph of the sample Marge poured from a plastic bag. Four master gardeners from URI program ran the event. Marge, seen here with Bobbie Jo, said “I would do anything I could do to make like happier (for the juniper).” (Warwick Beacon photo)
