Fitton, Roberta G. (Schultz)

Roberta G. (Schultz) Fitton, age 81 and lifelong resident of Warwick, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at her home. Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Robert Schultz and Grace (Tillinghast) Schultz. A devoted and loving mother, Grandma, and sister, she will be missed deeply.

After considering introducing her daughter to various churches and religions, Roberta settled at Spring Green Memorial Church in 1987, where she became a devoted member and had served as a Deacon for many years. A true activist for peace and nonviolence, she dedicated her time to the Commission for Nonviolent Initiatives, The George Wiley Center, and was a Crusader for the Rhode Island Baptist Peacemakers. She was an avid reader and belonged to Friends of the Warwick Public Library for several years.

Although Roberta was strong and independent, her heart was full of love and nurturing for people. As the older sister of two brothers, she helped care for her brothers as a second mother. This attribute continued throughout her life with daily phone calls to her daughter and grandchildren, “hugs over the phone,” and her joy for well wishes for holidays, anniversaries, or birthdays for the entire month. Roberta had a reputation for possessing the gift of gab and enjoyed hours-long phone conversations with friends and family. Her absence will be felt deeply by all whose lives she blessed.

She is survived by her daughter: Amy J.R. White and her husband Matthew of Warwick, RI; stepson: Shelton Fitton, Sr. and his wife Tara of Tennessee; beloved grandchildren: the late Phoenix A. Martinez, Minerva V. Martinez, Lucian A. Martinez, Lali R. Manchester, Shelton Fitton, Jr., and Tami Wormwood; brother: Robert Schultz and his wife Pamela of Warwick, RI and was predeceased by her youngest brother in 2017, Frederick Schultz, III; niece and nephews: Jesse Eppers, Sonya Schultz Dean, and Frederick “Erick” Schultz, IV; and beloved cat and companion of 12 years: Screech.

A memorial service for Roberta will be scheduled at Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Avenue, Warwick for a date in May. Please check on for updated information.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to: The Autism Project of Rhode Island, 1516 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919,; or to any charity of your choice that would be in line with Roberta’s values.
