Gary Alan Kondvar, age 62, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Warwick, RI, he was the son of the late Alfred Kondvar of Nitra, Czechoslovakia and Ruth (Freelove) Kondvar of Cranston, RI.
He was a graduate of Pilgrim High School Class of 1977. He also earned a degree in Computer Operations and Programming from Community College of RI. Throughout his career, Gary worked in the computer field at several companies including American Tourister, JS Data Corp, Swarovski, Colibri. He was most recently employed by Natco Home Group of West Warwick as a Business Analyst for the past 13 years.
A lifelong resident of Warwick, Gary was heavily dedicated and involved in his community. As a member of the Norwood Baptist Church, he served on the finance committee for several years. He was also a board member of the Norwood Neighborhood Association for many years, and graduated from Warwick’s Citizens Police Academy (CPAA), where he was currently the Alumni Association’s Vice President. For the past 7 years, he was frequently seen directing traffic at Dave’s Market in Hoxie and on West Shore Road, as well as at Haxton’s Liquors as a Community Service Officer (CSO) for the Warwick Police Department. He volunteered his service for traffic control one Sunday a month at St. Clements Church, as well as, at the Annual Gaspee Day Parade, 4th of July Fireworks in Oakland Beach, National Night Out, and Warwick’s Safe Ride Home on St. Patrick’s Day. Currently, Gary was the President of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates (FOPA) Lodge #7. He completed training for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), with aspirations of assisting with the establishment of a Warwick Emergency Management Agency. During the pandemic, he volunteered at COVID vaccination sites. Having donated 16 gallons of blood over 129 visits, Gary was a member of the RI Blood Center’s Century Club. He had a servant’s heart and will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and all whose lives he blessed.
Gary was the loving father of Erin Lynn Kondvar of Warwick, RI, and Stephanie Ruth Gray and her husband Paul of Hooksett, NH; beloved brother of Karen Kondvar Nelson and her husband Robert of Warwick; and uncle to two nieces, their husbands, and three children. He was excited to welcome his first grandchild this upcoming September.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI. His funeral service will be on Monday, April 4 at 10:00 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston, RI.
