Dear Editor,
Members of the Meshanticut community testified before the Cranston City Council (9/12/22) about children hitting the ground, teachers going into lockdown, and residents barricading themselves in their homes to escape mass shooting-like gunfire. These facts are omitted from the article “Not Enough”. Instead, the focus is on decibel levels— the numbers falsely reported—as the main criterion for determining the deleterious effects on the community.
The reporting in the article is sloppy. Dr. Melissa Jenkins-Mangili, Alfred Schoeninger, and myself are misquoted. Established scientific facts about noise pollution are reported as merely “beliefs”. But most disturbing, is the inability to comprehend the suffering of others, both on the part of the reporter and city officials.
Children are being traumatized. Homeowners are being told, “Sell your house or get used to it.” Mayor Hopkins is allowing the insanity to continue. Shameful, and nothing short of gross negligence.
