The Bishop Hendricken wrestling team took the New England championship at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Saturday, outpacing the region’s best with a total of 89 points.
The Hawks bested second-place Newtown (Conn.) by 28.5 points thanks to five wrestlers that placed – Dylan DiSano, Jonathan Celico, Devin Rivet, Jimmie Sauro and Nick Martino.
DiSano posted the Hawks’ top finish, earning second in the 126-pound weight class. Additionally, Rivet (138), Sauro (182) and Martino (220) all earned third-place finishes, while Celico placed fifth at 132.
The Hawks were coming off a performance the weekend prior, in which they captured their fourth consecutive state championship behind individual state champions DiSano, Rivet and Sauro.
Over the weekend, Hendricken’s task was far greater, going head-to-head with a total of 128 teams that competed. However, the Hawks emerged as the top team once again.
