Hawks win Class A title

The RIIL Indoor Track & Field Class Championships were held last week in Providence and many locals shined as they geared up for one last showdown before the state meet coming up later this month.

The Bishop Hendricken Hawks took first place, edging rival La Salle for their first class win in three years. Classical won the girls side of the show.

Here are some results from the day:


BOYS

Troy Silvestri won the 3,000 run for Hendricken while teammate Brayton Gazerro took first in the 1,000 run. Jakob Reyes won the high jump for Hendricken while teammate Alex Morin won the shot put. Keith Daigneau won the weight throw for the Hawks as well.

Gazerro finished second in the 1,500 run for the Hawks, while Toll Gate’s Domenic Calise finished second in the 300 dash. Hendricken’s Keith Daigneau finished second in the shot put.

Jack Moretta finished third in the 3,000 run for the Hawks while Edmund Lok took third in the 50 dash. Hendricken’s Anthony Manna placed third in the 600 run while teammate Loubnen Sukkar placed third in the shot put. Michael Laflamme finished third in the weight throw for the Hawks.

Silvestri later placed fourth in the 1,500 while Curt Daigneau finished fourth in the shot put for the Hawks.

Hendricken’s Keegan Tierney placed fifth in the 3,000 run while teammate Will Olsen took fifth in the 1,500. Elliott Gauvin placed fifth in the 600 run for Hendricken.

Morin finished sixth in the weight throw, followed by Arnold in sixth in the 1,000 run. Josiah Nhar took sixth in the 55 hurdles for the Hawks.

Jude Monti took seventh in the long jump for the Hawks while teammate Derek Goll placed seventh in the weight throw. Hendricken’s Alex Arnold finished seventh in the shot put, while Ollie Ide took seventh in the 1,000 run. Sam Zabbo finished seventh in the 3,000 run for the Hawks.

Ide took eighth in the 1,500, while Hendricken’s Joel Felix placed eighth in the 55 dash.

Hendricken’s Ethan Charnley placed ninth in the weight throw, followed by teammate Tommy Flanders in ninth in the 600 run. Tierney placed ninth in the 1,500, while Toll Gate’s Jamie Luna took ninth in the 55 dash. Hendricken’s Michael DaSilva placed ninth in the 55 hurdles. Andrew Frezza took ninth in the 3,000 for the Hawks.

Hendricken’s Jacob Weidinger took 10th in the weight throw, while teammate Ian Garcia finished 10th in the high jump. Hendricken’s Alex Sjoblom took 10th in the 1,500. Toll Gate’s Joshua Maynard placed 10th in the 3,000 run.

Pilgrim’s Jack Coffey took sixth in the 300 dash while teammate Jack Smith took sixth in the 1,000 run. Cole Manning finished sixth in the shot put for Pilgrim.

Ian Bubar took eighth in the 1,000 run for the Pats, while teammate Brandon Wolfenden took eighth in the shot put.

West’s Alonso Parker-Sharpe placed third in the 300 dash. Sylus Phang finished eighth in the long jump for East while teammate Caden Holtzman took eighth in the shot put.

Pilgrim’s Alex Pinherio won the 55 dash in the Class B event while teammate Aiden Prum placed third.


GIRLS

Pilgrim’s Dasani Stewart won the long jump and the high jump. Pilgrim’s Keaney Bayha finished second in the 3,000 run while Toll Gate’s Alison Pankowicz finished second in the 1,500.

Bayha later finished fourth in the 1,500, Pankowicz later finished fifth in the 1,000 run.

Pilgrim’s Alyssa Twomey took seventh in the 55 hurdles while Bayha took seventh in the 1,000 run.

Toll Gate’s Delanie Wheeler finished 10th in the 600, while teammate Vanessa Jones placed 10th in the shot put.

Ailani Sutherland continued to add to her high school resume by winning the 55 dash for West and finishing second in the 300 dash.

Reece Vitale finished second in the 55 hurdles for West while teammate Stalia Biosse took second in the 600 run. West’s Sam Rosenfield took second in the shot put.

Quiana Pezza placed fourth in the long jump for West. Stella Loezos took fifth in the 1,500 for East, while teammate Nevaeh Fatorma placed fifth in the hurdles.

Vitale finished sixth in the long jump, while Pezza placed sixth in the hurdles.

East’s Jessica Chin placed seventh in the 1,500

West’s Praise Mayson took eighth in the 50 dash. Talia Petit finished ninth in the 1,500 for West while Biosse finished ninth in the 50 dash. Pezza took ninth in the 600 as well. Loezos also placed ninth in the 1,000.

Waimea Dodge placed 10th in the long jump for the Falcons while Mayson placed 10th in the 600.

The freshman state championships were held on Monday, with Toll Gate finishing 10th with just six athletes present.

Vanessa Jones took third in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. Wheeler took fourth in the 600 run, while Hannah Chasse took 10th in the weight throw.
