June 8, Rhode Island Rose Society 25th Anniversary Rose Show will be held on Sat., June 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.  at the Shepherd of the Valley Church, 604 Seven Mile Road, Hope. The “Silver Celebration” will showcase the Society’s best roses grown in the area.  Hybrid Teas, Old Garden Roses, shrubs and much more.  Beautiful arrangements will be judged, and awards presented.  The day’s program: 1 to 2 p.m. Growing Roses Organically; 1 to 3 p.m. Ask a Consulting Rosarian About Your Rose Problems; 2 to 2:30 p.m. What’s Eating My Roses? Bugs!  This event is free and open to the public.


June 9, 15th Annual Cause for Paws Car Show
 will be hosted by Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter on Sun., June 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 171 Service Avenue, Warwick (rain date July 21). Classics, Customs, Exotics, Hot Rods, all-year Corvettes, Antique Firetrucks, etc. are invited. $20 per registered car, goody bags, trophies, dash plaques. June 12, NAMI-RI: Registration open for Family-to Family Course The Rhode Island chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) is now accepting registration for our June/July session of NAMI’s Family-to-Family course which begins Wed., June 12.  Course is on Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This is a free and virtual, 8-session educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. It is a designated evidence-based program, which means that research shows that the program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition. NAMI-Rhode Island's Family-to-Family course is taught by trained family members who have lived experience with a loved one, and includes presentations, discussions and interactive exercises. June 21, Riverview Improvement Association (RIVA) Summer Solstice and Strawberry Moon Beach Party will be held on Fri., June 21, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the beach at the end of Mill Cove Road, Warwick. The Strawberry Moon happens just once a year. This one is extra special because it coincides with the longest day of the year. June 22, Strawberry Festival at Smith’s Castle invites the public to join in celebrating the annual Strawberry Festival on Sat., June 22, from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Smith’s Castle, 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown. This family friendly event will feature puppeteer Dan Butterworth, as well as pop singer Jesse Liam. Colonial games, activities, and crafts will be provided by our junior docents, as well as pony rides for children. Vendors will also be onsite, and Smith Castle famous strawberry shortcake will be for sale. Visitors to the historic house museum will be welcomed by docents in period attire and be able to tour the downstairs interior of the former home and grounds of the prominent Smith and Updike families. A special exhibit will feature collections from the Narragansett Bay Quilt Association. Admission to Strawberry Festival is $10 per adult, $8 for seniors and military, $6 for children over 6 years of age. Family Cap is $25. This event was made possible by the generosity of the North Kingstown Arts Council, and the volunteers and staff of The Cocumscussoc Association.

June 22, 2 Inspired 2 Be Tired Community Walk is sponsored by the Warwick Health Equity Zone and will be held on Sat., June 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Confreda Sports Complex, 80 Bend St., Warwick.  Festivities include: Free arts and crafts, refreshments and snacks, face painting and lawn games.  Raffle tickets: 1 for $1 or 6 for $5.  All raffle proceeds will go to Rhode Island Parent Information Network. Joining the festivities will be members of the Warwick Police and Fire Departments.  Warwick Health Equity Zone focuses on families living through disabilities.

 Pilgrim High School Class of 1975 50th Reunion, “Time in a Bottle,” is currently being planned. NAMI-RI Offers Family Support Groups  The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) offers free support groups for families and friends of loved ones who are struggling with their mental health. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also have lived experience as family members themselves. The group meetings last about 1.5 hours, and everyone who participates in the meeting gets a chance to share.  The other members of the group try to offer help and resources, when appropriate, based on their own experiences. Volunteer with NAMI-RI The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) is currently seeking volunteers to facilitate our family programs in 2024.
