In memory of Gianna

Danny Hall, creator of the annual Hall’s Asylum Halloween display on Warwick Neck Avenue that brought in more than $1,500 in donations for the Gianna Cirella Memorial Foundation dedicated to the fight against sepsis presents the proceeds to Gianna’s mother, Tara. Tara started the foundation shortly after Gianna, 16, a junior at Toll Gate High School and goalie of her soccer team died from sepsis on Nov. 1, 2017. Gianna’s first signs of illness were a sore throat only a few weeks earlier. Her condition deteriorated rapidly and only three days later she was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The community rallied to support her and to this day one of the large boulders beside the road to the school remains painted purple for her. Tara looked not only to keep the memory of her daughter’s compassion for others alive, but to bring awareness of sepsis and raise funds to fight it with creation of the foundation. (Submitted photo)
