John L. “Jack” Habershaw Sr.

John L. “Jack” Habershaw Sr., age 88, formerly of Greylawn Avenue, Warwick, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Brookdale Centre of New England in Coventry. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. “Peg” (Kiernan) Habershaw.

Born in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland, a son of the late Robert J. and Mary (Mullen) Habershaw, and the late Olive (Naismith) Habershaw, he lived in Warwick for 57 years. He attended Hope High School in Providence, and was a United .States Army veteran of the Korean War era. Mr. Habershaw was a truck driver for Monahan Transportation in Warwick, and later for Corp Brothers in Providence, retiring in 1998. He was a member of Teamsters Local # 251. Jack was a long-time active parishioner of St. Kevin Church in Warwick and served as a Eucharistic minister, collector, and choir member, and chaired or served on committees for the Catholic Charity Fund, the Parish Building Fund, the Annual Bazaar, and the 20 Week Club. He was a former member of Warwick Council # 2295 Knights of Columbus, and a former volunteer at McAuley House in Providence.

He is survived by four sons and four daughters: John L. Habershaw, Jr. (Donna) of Bristol, Patricia M. Murray of Warwick, Margie Wolfe (Don) of Coventry, Michael F. Habershaw (the late Paula) of North Kingstown, Edward R. Habershaw (Lynne) of Warwick, Kathleen A. Fanning (Michael) of North Andover, MA, Susan H. LeClair (Jeff) of Oakton, VA, and Steven D. Habershaw (Amanda) of Greensburg, PA; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and his companion, Helene J. Soucy of West Greenwich. Jack is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Dorothy M. Fall of Rehoboth, MA, Joseph G. Habershaw of Smithfield, Arthur E. Habershaw of Los Angeles, CA, and Hazel Ann Habershaw of Rochester, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert J. Habershaw, Thomas A. Habershaw, Paul F. Habershaw, and Austin Habershaw.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, his funeral mass, visitation, and burial will be private. The Mass of Christian Burial will be live-streamed on Saturday, March 6, at 10:00 a.m. on the St. Kevin Parish website at: www.stkevin-stbenedict.org
