Johnston Historical Society to Dedicate Monument for WWII Hero

Dedication ceremony for Emery O Picotte

Posted

The Johnston Historical Society invites the community to a special dedication ceremony honoring Emery O. Picotte, a paratrooper with the 501st Airborne, who was killed in action on January 3, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge at the age of 23.

The event will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 1 PM at the Johnston Historical Society Museum, located at 101 Putnam Pike (Route 44), Johnston, RI 02919.

This tribute was made possible through the efforts of George Picotte, Emery’s nephew and a dedicated member of the Historical Society, who passed away in November 2024. George played a key role in financing a flagpole and monument in his uncle’s memory and wished for it to be officially dedicated in Emery’s honor. Emery was a recipient of the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.

Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held on the museum grounds. All are welcome to attend and pay tribute to a local hero.
