HIT & RUN

On April 29 at approximately 11:34 a.m., Patrolman Nicholas Defelice responded to a reported hit and run motor vehicle accident without injuries on 107 George Waterman Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, Patrolman Defelice observed moderate damage to the driver side door of vehicle #1. Operator #1 stated that, while he was traveling southbound on George Waterman Road, a parked vehicle facing northbound on the road attempted to perform a U-turn and collided with the driver-side door of vehicle #1. Vehicle #2 left a front bumper and a license plate at the scene, which upon examination was revealed to have expired in Oct. 2024. Vehicle #1 left the scene without incident, and operator #1 indicated he wished to pursue a criminal complaint against operator #2.

Operator #2 responded to Johnston Police headquarters, identifying himself as the driver of vehicle #2. He stated that he left the scene because he believed the other operator to be at fault, whereupon he was informed by a sergeant that RI State Law requires anyone involved in a motor vehicle accident to remain at the scene until police arrive.

Operator #2 was charged with Duty to Stop in Accident Resulting in Damage to Attended Vehicle. He also received e-citations for Driving Without a License, as well as Operation of Unregistered Vehicle. He was released with a 3rd District Court Summons.

POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

On April 24 at approximately 9:35 p.m., Patrolman Matthew Merritt and two other patrolmen responded to the Bel-Air Motor Inn on 2154 Hartford Avenue to locate a man with an active arrest warrant in Johnston. Upon arrival at the room, Patrolman Merritt located the man and informed him that he would be placed under arrest due to the outstanding warrant. A search uncovered a small bag of an unknown white powdery substance in the man’s front pants pocket, which would later produce a positive result for cocaine after being tested with a narcotics analysis kit.

The suspect was charged with Domestic Simple Assault, Domestic Vandalism and Domestic Disorderly Conduct, as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance under 10 grams. He received a 3rd District Court Summons for all four charges.
