DUI
On May 27 around 8:45 p.m., Officer Patrick Gendreau observed a white sedan traveling southbound on George Waterman Road at an excessive rate of speed while traversing a corner. After observing the vehicle driving at high speeds, engaging the brake lights in extremely short durations and veering over the white line of the breakdown lane, Officer Gendreau initiated a motor vehicle stop.
Upon contacting the vehicle’s operator, she claimed that she was traveling to her home in Providence. The officer observed her speech to be mumbled and a mild smell of alcohol to be coming from the inside of the vehicle. The operator struggled to complete multiple field sobriety tests, and several opened alcohol containers were discovered in the vehicle alongside several unopened containers, an unopened cannabis edible and a cannabis vape pen.
The operator was issued a Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal Summons for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test, Speeding 11+ MPH in Excess of Posted Limit - 1st Offense and Operate Vehicle with Unsealed Alcoholic Beverage - 1st Offense. She was also issued a summons for Laned Roadway Violation.
SHOPLIFTING
On May 29, Warwick Police arrested a man with an active arrest warrant for shoplifting at a Market Basket location in Johnston on 1300 Hartford Avenue. The shoplifting occurred on March 13, when the suspect left the store without paying for approximately $148.66 of items. A Rhode Island DMV check of the man’s registration plate revealed his identity to law enforcement. After initially being brought to the Warwick Police Department, the man was taken into the custody of the Johnston Police Department. He entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment and was then given a $2,500 PR bail and issued a pre-trial date in June.
