Joseph “Joe” A. Souza, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. He was the beloved husband of Mary Theresa (Melao) Souza for 59 years. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Louise (Perry) Souza. 

Joe was a graduate of Cranston East High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves for 8 years. Joe had a long career in the newspaper industry where he worked as a printer. He was employed by the East Greenwich Pendulum, Kent County Times, Warwick Beacon, and Pawtuxet Valley Daily Times where he retired. He was a communicant of St. Kevin Catholic Church and the former St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, both in Warwick. He was a lifetime member and Past President of the Cranston Portuguese Rod & Gun Club. In his younger years, he was on various bowling leagues.  Joe enjoyed playing High Low Jack on Monday evenings alongside his father at the Cranston Portuguese Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden. Joe loved spending time with his family, most especially his grandchildren who he deeply cared for. He will forever be remembered as an integral part of their upbringing. 

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his three children, Brenda L. Enos (husband, Jeffrey), Kevin J. Souza (wife, Lisa), and Michael J. Souza (wife, Kelly); five grandchildren, Jayne R. Enos, Gregory W. Enos, Emily M. Souza, Kaleb J. Souza, and Zachary J. Souza; and sister, Carolyn M. Souza. 

His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022 from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. in St. Kevin Catholic Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick. Visiting Hours are from 4-7 pm on Sunday, October 23, 2022 in the funeral home.
