Joseph “Joe” L. King, age 75 of Warwick, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Shirley M. (Nye) King for 38 years. Born in Providence, Joe was the loving son of the late Lyman and Rita (Gavin) King.

Joe’s infectious smile and big heart were on display in all facets of his life, from the simple joys of making pizza with his grandchildren, petting any puppy he could, and his active participation with the New England Amputee Association. Joe was a proud, hard working man, employed by General Dynamics Electric Boat where he worked as an electronic technician for 30+ years before retiring. Amongst his many joys were playing bingo at Foxwoods, rooting for the Red Sox and the Patriots, Papa’s Ice Cream, scratch tickets, and puppies. Joe will be lovingly remembered as a man whose most joyous moments were surrounded by family, whether it was at Friday night family dinners or on road trips to the beach, “just to make sure the ocean was still there.”

Joe honorably served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. As a final act of service he was also an organ donor which he believed to be the most precious gift anyone could give.

Joe was the beloved father of Jennie R. Ragan (husband, Sean), Amanda L. Rudman (husband, Adam), and Matthew J. King (wife, Alayna Woodley); cherished Papa of Noah, Rebecca, Saoirse Ragan, Allie Rudman, and grand-hode puppies Ellie and Nash; caring brother of Ann DeSantis; brother-in-law of Ann Marie Peltier; uncle of Daniel DeSantis-Mallia (husband, Christopher) and Brian Peltier (Emily White).

Joe’s funeral will be privately held with burial in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery where Military funeral honors will be rendered in recognition of his honorable and faithful service to this country.
