Juanita A. Scuncio

Juanita A. Scuncio, of Warwick, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Respiratory & Rehabilitation Center of RI in Coventry. Ms. Scuncio was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph L. and Assunta R. (Crudele) Scuncio.

Ms. Scuncio was employed as a Service Secretary at the Providence VA Medical Center for 40 years before retiring in 1996. She served as Parish Secretary at St. William Church in Warwick for 9 years until retiring again in 2007. She also worked as a part-time receptionist at the Jewish Community Center in Providence for over 20 years. Ms. Scuncio was a graduate of Cranston High School and attended Providence College, CCRI, and the University of Rhode Island. She attended the former Rhode Island Conservatory of Music on a scholarship, and was an accomplished concert pianist and piano teacher. She served as Executive Secretary on the Board of Directors of the Providence Postal Federal Credit Union (formerly the Providence VA Hospital Federal Credit Union) for over 35 years. She was a long-standing member of the AARP, the American Legion Womens’ Auxiliary, William Shields Unit #43, the Italian American Veterans Auxiliary, the Young Pannese Social Club Ladies Auxiliary, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter of Kent County. She was also an active member of the Norwood Neighborhood Association.

Ms. Scuncio was a very dedicated federal employee and was honored in 1994 with a nomination as Federal Employee of the Year in the secretarial category. She was an avid opera buff and enjoyed classical music and travel. She was also an active representative for Avon Products, Inc. for many years.

She was the devoted sister of the late William F. Scuncio, G. Evelyn Scuncio, and Dorothy M. Hayden. She was the dear aunt of Donna M. Hayden of Warwick, Kevin E. Donahue of Smithfield, and the late Cherie Ann Hayden Donahue; the cherished great-aunt of Robert Simmons of West Warwick, Katelynne E. Donahue of Smithfield, and Edward P. Donahue of Clayville; and the adored sister-in-law of Barbara Scuncio of Hopkinton. She was the loving companion of the late Walter R. Perry, Sr. and Joseph M. Spanedda.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, October 7, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 8-9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
