Lady Titans looking to make run

The Warwick girls hockey co-op has skated out to a 0-2-1 start this winter season and now enters a near three-week break for the holidays.

The Lady Titans have been led by senior goalie Mary Centracchio, who has become one of the state’s top goaltenders. She along with a sturdy cast of defenders have allowed the Titans to compete with some of the top teams in the state, despite the record.

“We will be relying on our defense and goaltending. We have four good defensemen and the offense, we’re still trying to figure that out right now,” said Warwick coach Don Centracchio.

So far, the plan been to keep the score low and shut down opposing offenses while the Warwick forwards work out the kinks. Mary Centracchio has faced some heavy pressure to this point and Don hopes the team can turn things around after the break.

“Mary has been keeping us in these games and has been making the scores look a lot better than they could have been. She’s our senior captain and she is a game changer. She’s a goalie that can keep you in a tight game and help you win a low scoring game,” said Don.

Warwick has a number of new players on its roster and skaters that are still developing their skills on the ice. However, they also have a solid core of returners that figure to be playmakers as the season wears on. The Titans return key players including Elizabeth Cavanagh, Mia Campbell, Ayla Paley, and Makela Bessette. Flora Meunier and Emily Tullie will also contribute in net while handling other positions.

Don Centracchio is confident that his group will win some games once it returns to action. Although the offense has sputtered in the first three games, he believes that with time, it will work itself out and that Warwick will find success by years end.

“We have a few good seniors like Elizabeth, Mia and Makela. They have been playing for four years now. I hope that we can start putting some wins together and make some noise because we know that we have that ability,” said Don. “The biggest thing will just be putting the puck in the net. That will come.”
