Raymond J. Lang Jr., aged 74, residing in Warwick, RI passed away suddenly on April 8, 2023 at home.

Ray, born on September 22, 1948, grew up in Warwick, RI and attended Veterans Memorial High School.  Moving on the serve in the U.S. Navy during the war in Vietnam with honor, he joined the Providence Gas Company upon returning.  At the age of 26, he married his spouse Susan, and went on to have two beautiful sons Raymond and Jeffrey.

He spent his whole career at the Providence Gas Company, serving as the President of the Local 12431 Steelworkers Union, and leading the lockout in 2002 providing better wages and job security for over 250 union members.  He was always caring for others and advocating for his friends and co-workers.

Ray had a gift for athletics and won several state softball championships in Rhode Island before teaching and coaching his two boys.  He coached Raymond and Jeffrey at Warwick Junior and Edgewood hockey associations, and for Warwick Police Athletic league baseball.  He would also coach American Legion baseball for many years for several Warwick teams.  Everyone remembers him for his intense knowledge of the game and keen wit in communicating with players.

After his retirement, he involved himself in the outreach and community efforts of the Knights of Columbus in Warwick, helping to run and organize events for local youth and families.

He is survived by his wife Susan, and two sons Raymond and Jeffrey, as well as their spouses Diane and Rachel.  His three grandchildren, Haley Lang, Raymond and Diane’s daughter, and Andreas and Gabriel Ortiz, Jeff’s stepsons will all miss their grandfather greatly.

A funeral will be held Monday, April 17, 2023 at 10:30am from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Ln. at 11:30am. Burial with full Military Honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.  Visiting hours will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 2-5pm.
