Robert B. Leavitt, 84, passed on peacefully on September 19, 2024, surrounded by his daughters. He was the husband of the late Ann (Muto) Leavitt, who he met when he was six years old. They became friends, dated and were married for 57 years.

Born in Warwick on September 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Richard and Josephine Leavitt. He was a lifelong Warwick resident.

Bob worked for the City of Warwick for 34 years as a foreman/heavy equipment operator building roads, parks, ball fields, and the bike path among some of the few projects he helped build in his career. He was one of the original members of AFSCME Local 1651 serving as Vice President. Bob also played on the Local’s softball team.

In his retirement he kept busy fixing small engines. There was never an engine he couldn’t fix. He also enjoyed hanging out in his garage with is brothers and everyone who stopped in when the door was opened, and going to the Hoxsie Dunkin’ Donuts every morning with his friends. He also had fun going on road trips searching for tractors with his friend Gil.

Bob loved to make people laugh and when joking with people he always reminded them ‘you have to have a laugh on your job’. But he was happiest when spending time with his family. He always put family first and was always there for anyone who needed help.

He was the devoted father of Debra Downey, Linda Cote and her husband August, and Nancy Allinson and her husband Edward.

He was also the grandfather of Katie-Lin Cote, August “Buddy” Cote III, Brittany Stacey and her husband James, James Downey III and his wife Kristen, Jennifer O’Neil and her husband Ian, Jazmine Allinson and Mia Allinson. And great-grandfather of Brittany LaCroix, Evelyn Finnemore, Elizabeth, Hannah and Sophia Downey, and Madison and Nora O’Neil.

Bob was also the brother of William Leavitt, Wayne Leavitt, Josephine Charron, Grace Heath, Alice Hall, and Lora Paolilli. He was the brother of the late James and Richard Leavitt.
