Celebrate the season with three touching, funny, and heartwarming Christmas romances on the big screen at Warwick Public Library on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, December 7, 8 & 9 at 7 p.m.
On December 7, see “The Shop Around the Corner” (1940), starring James Stewart, Margaret Sullavan, and Frank Morgan. As Christmas approaches, prickly Budapest shop clerks Alfred and Klara bicker and insult each other while unknowingly falling in love as anonymous pen pals. Meanwhile, shop owner Mr. Matuschek’s escalating outbursts have everyone worried and on edge.
On December 8, watch “Remember the Night” (1940), starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray. Assistant District Attorney John Sargent feels sorry for shoplifter Lee Leander when she’s arrested before Christmas and tossed into jail for the holidays. Bailing her out and taking her with him to his family in Indiana, he begins to fall in love.
On December 9, enjoy “Holiday Affair” (1949), starring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh. Department store clerk Steve Mason loses his job when he lets attractive secret shopper Connie Ennis get away. Then, he asks her out to lunch and buys her son Timmy the expensive model train he wants for Christmas—and suddenly Connie and her boyfriend Carl’s lives get complicated.
