The Rhode Island Interscholastic League Outdoor Track & Field State Championships were held last weekend at Brown University and plenty of locals finished the year strong with big performances. The event took place across two days, as rain washed out the second half of Saturday and forced things to be completed on Sunday.
La Salle Academy took first as a team with a score of 147, while Bishop Hendricken finished in second with 113, and Barrington third with 111. Pilgrim wrapped up seventh place.
Cumberland won the girls’ side with a score of 69 and West Warwick took second with 64.
Here is a look at some of the top performers on the day:
GIRLS
Keaney Bayha won the 3,000 run to wrap up her high school career for Pilgrim. Vanessa Jones won the discus throw for Toll Gate
Cranston West’s Reece Vitale took second in the 300 meter hurdles as well as second in the triple jump. Pilgrim’s Lia Wasilewski finished second in the javelin throw
Vitale placed third in the 100 hurdles, while Jones finished third in the hammer throw.
West’s relay team of Sophia DeLuca, Kristen Fountaine, Annelisa Joyce and Lilliana Prendergast took fifth in the 3,200.
BOYS
Carson Dean won the pole vault for Hendricken and Pilgrim’s Hunter Schobel won the triple jump for the Pats. Hendricken’s Colby Flynn won the 1,500 run.
Flynn went on to take second in the 3,000 run while teammate Tristan Jordan took second in the 110 hurdles. Brandon Wolfenden took second in the shot put for Pilgrim.
Fred Russell finished third in the 3,000 run for the Hawks while teammate Elijah Guertin took third in the 110 hurdles. David Hayes took third in the 1,500 run for the Hawks as well.
Schobel went on to take fourth in the long jump, while Hendricken’s Nathanel Tarlue took fourth in the triple jump. Dimitri Johnson finished fourth in the hammer throw for the Hawks, and teammate Alezander Prado took fourth in the shot put.
Hendricken’s relay group of Andrew McCarthy, Jamel Flomo, Rylan Barbato and Jeremiah Sans Souci took fourth in the 1,600.
Hendricken’s McCarthy took fourth in the 400 dash. Jakob Reyes finished fifth in the high jump for the Hawks, while Russell ran to fifth place in the 1,500.
Hendricken’s relay team of Jordan, Guertin, Will Mascena and Javien Valle took fifth in the 400.
