MacKinnon, Sandra "Sandy" Louise


Mrs. Sandra Louise “Sandy” MacKinnon, daughter of the late Dwight and Charlotte Hutchins, was born on April 15, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in Middleton, MA and raised her family in Roslindale, MA. She moved to Warwick, RI to live with her daughter, Dawn. Sandy died peacefully early Thanksgiving morning, November 23rd, with her loved ones by her side. She will be deeply missed.

Sandy was the loyal wife of her late husband of 51 years, Fraser N. MacKinnon, and was a loving mother to her seven children: Jeanine Hopkins and her spouse Brian of Braintree, MA, Charles MacKinnon and his spouse Mayette of Hooksett, NH, Jessica MacKinnon-Allen of ME, Andrea Abdou and her spouse David of Ludlow, MA, and Dawn MacKinnon-Ladino and her spouse James of Warwick, RI. She was devoted to her 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Sandy was an avid baker and amazing cook with an amazing sense of humor. Her special breakfast casserole and “Cool” Candy Cane cookies were cherished by her family. She loved to sew, crochet and knit wonderful gifts for her friends and family and she donated many items to charities. Sandy was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle extraordinaire. She loved participating in mystery book and knitting clubs at local libraries, visiting the Roger Williams Park Zoo and local alpaca farms, and going to many seasonal festivals throughout RI with her grandchildren.

Sandy thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 30 years. She held the position of Worthy Matron five times, three times in the Wistaria Chapter and two times in the Contentment Chapter. She was a current member of the Braintree Chapter. Sandy was a member and Past President of Rosalie Rebekah Lodge No. 116 and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Massachusetts. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Scot’s Charitable Society that provides college scholarships. Also, Sandy was a Past Mother Advisor for Needham Assembly #57 in the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Family and friends may call between 4 - 8 P.M. on Wednesday, November 29 at Folsom’s Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood, MA with a Rebekah Service at 4:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 30, at 11 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA followed by a private burial.
