Aaron Mackisey, independent candidate for Warwick City
Council in Ward 9, is calling on the Warwick City Council to pass a resolution urging Gov. Raimondo to release CARES Act funding to Rhode Island municipalities.
According to the R.I. League of Cities and Towns, Rhode Island is only one of three states not to provide financial assistance to local governments to combat COVID-19 and address its financial impacts.
“Along with the other thirty-eight cities and towns, Warwick is hurting right now,” said Mackisey. “Currently the federal funding which Rhode Island received through the CARES Act is being cordoned off up on Smith Hill. The CARES Act is as clear as black & white; these funds are intended for our municipalities and small businesses.”
The Dept. of the Treasury provided states with a clear funding formula to assist municipalities and small businesses during the current pandemic. “While other states have been able to allocate
increased assistance to our municipalities, Rhode Island has not. Now, time is running out as we move closer to the December deadline where unused funds are returned to the Treasury,” said
Mackisey in a release.
Mackisey is calling for the Warwick City Council to make clear that Gov. Raimondo needs to follow CARES Act guidelines and release the federal funding which will assist Warwick and the
other thirty-eight Rhode Island municipalities. “Now more than ever, Warwick needs servant leaders who will stand up for our neighbors. On our City Council and to our state leaders, I will
be a tireless advocate for every neighbor in Ward 9,” said Mackisey. “Warwick should join with the Rhode Island League of Cities & Towns and Lt Gov. McKee to lobby for the fair
release of CARES Act funds so that we can move Warwick forward.”
