Margot C. (Mahoney) Galamaga, 83, a retired English teacher who dedicated 32 years to the City of Warwick and a longtime Trustee of the Warwick Public Library, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Capt. Donald P. Galamaga, USN, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in 2022.
Born in Hartford, CT, Margot was the youngest of three daughters of the late Judge Charles E. Mahoney and Mary B. (Mullane) Mahoney.
A proud graduate of Albertus Magnus College, she earned her degree in English and went on to teach for several years, profoundly influencing the lives of hundreds of students. Margot was often recognized by former students, who fondly remembered her passion for literature, particularly her love of Shakespeare and murder mysteries, which she eagerly passed on to her own children.
Friends since childhood remember Margot as a witty, smart, and energetic woman with a deep love for the beach. She cherished her many special memories at Black Point Beach and remained life-long friends with a close-knit group of women who called themselves the “Tin Roses.”
After starting their married life in Newport, Margot and Don eventually settled in Warwick, where they raised their family. In retirement, they enjoyed winters in Largo, Florida, where they made many cherished friends.
Margot took immense pride in her family and was the devoted mother of LCDR Peter C. Galamaga (Monica), Mary A. Ruggiero, Atty. Paul F. Galamaga (Sheila), and Dr. Robert W. Galamaga (Rachel). She was a loving grandmother to Timothy, Daniel, Charles, Peter, Jared, Ashley, Caitlin, and Ryan, and a doting great-grandmother to William, Ryleigh, and Leo. Margot is also survived by her sister, Mary Jean Shea, and was predeceased by her sister, Judy Garrity. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and generosity.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 8 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick.
