MARRIAGE STORY
* * *
(The story of a divorce)
Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson star as Charlie and Nicole, a couple contemplating divorce, a situation complicated by their love and concern for their young son.
Charlie directs a small Off-Broadway theatre company and Nicole is his leading actress. Balancing careers and spending time with each other becomes more difficult as careers jump back and forth between L.A. and NYC. The tense situation is further complicated by Nicole's aggressive lawyer (Laura Dern).
The 2¼-hour movie is a bit long, but will hold your interest as two controlled and controlling people let things get out of hand, largely due to Nicole's take-no-prisoners lawyer. You will love Dern's performance, but you won't like her character.
Who's wrong? Both of them, obviously, but stay with the movie as it plays out in a most interesting way, thanks to good writing and acting.
"Marriage Story" is another movie following the trend of short runs and theatres and then moving to Netflix. The Avon has landed this one.
Rated R with profanity and some tense adult situations.
