Mary E. (McGrath) Selwyn, 95, a retired school teacher for the Warwick School Department for 33 years passed away Tuesday July 20, 2021 at the Scalabrini Villa in North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late George E. Selwyn, Jr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Daniel A. and Ellen T. (Smith) McGrath.

Mary found her vocation in teaching. She retired in 1994 as the English Department Head at Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. She was an avid reader and bridge player. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. Mary was a Charter member of the St. Kevin’s Woman’s Club, a member of the National Council of English Teachers and the R.I.C. Alumni Association. She was active in Warwick politics and was on many community committees. Mary will truly be missed.

Mary was the beloved mother of Paul M. Selwyn (Elizabeth), Maribeth Brouillette (Paul), Julie A. Selwyn, Lee A. Bresnahan (late Daniel) and the late Daniel J. Selwyn and George E. “Butch” Selwyn III. Loving grandmother of Jessica, Nathan, Diana, Kylee, George IV, Christopher, Megan, Maddie and the late Matthew and Tyler. Loving great grandmother of Paige, Chloe, Andrew and Eliah.

Her funeral will be held Monday July 26, 2021 at 10 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
