Michael J. Babula, Deputy Chief of WPD (ret.), age 66, died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at home with his beloved wife, Jeanne E. (Lynch) Babula, by his side. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Vitald and Sadie (Nassar) Babula. Michael earned his BS in Law Enforcement from Salve Regina University in 1982 and served with the Warwick Police Department. In the span of his thirty five year career, Michael rose to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police in 2010 and served in this position until his retirement in 2018. He received numerous commendations, recognition ribbons and the medal of bravery for saving a man’s life under extraordinary circumstances. Michael had a distinguished military career. He served with the US Air Force and later with the US Army. As a Green Beret, Michael served in South America with Special Operations. He was a scholar of history and an avid reader. He had a great thirst for knowledge and enjoyed sharing his opinions with others. Michael spent many years touring the East Coast on his motorcycle with his wife, Jeanne, and enjoyed the moments that they spent together with their Golden Retrievers. Michael was also an accomplished knife maker. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister Rachel Farnsworth (Daniel) and his nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11 am in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane, Warwick.
