Michael P. Batalon

Michael P. Batalon, age 43, of Warwick, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, with his wife, Lindsay M. (McQueeney) Batalon, by his side.

Born in Providence, a son of Paul R. and Susan (Rowland) Batalon of Warwick, he was a life-long Warwick resident. He was a 1995 graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, and a 2000 graduate of the University of Rhode Island. Michael was a Physical Education and Health teacher in the Warwick Public Schools for 19 years, 17 of those years at Pilgrim High School, and most recently at Winman Middle School. He was a member of the Warwick Teachers Union, Local 915.

Michael was a beloved coach and mentor for many local sports teams. He served as coach for Warwick American Little League Baseball, winning a city championship. He also coached Warwick Veterans High School Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity boys’ basketball; Pilgrim High School Freshman baseball; Pilgrim High School Varsity girls basketball, and AAU baseball. Most recently, Michael coached Pilgrim High School boys Varsity basketball, winning a state championship in 2015.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter and two sons, Bridget M. Batalon, Drew M. Batalon and Christopher J. Batalon, who Michael adored and loved spending time with; a sister, Janet E. Batalon of North Kingstown; a brother, Brian R. Batalon and his wife Karley, of Bellingham, MA; his paternal grandfather, Deacon Raymond Batalon of North Smithfield; his mother-in-law, Melissa M. McQueeney of East Greenwich; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elizabeth M. and John H. Masson of South Kingstown; two nephews; Nathan and Jason Batalon; and a niece, Lauren Masson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Kevin Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Friends are requested to meet directly at the church. (The mass will be live-streamed on the church website at: www.stkevin-stbenedict.org). A walk-through visitation will be held on Thursday, May 13, from 3-6 p.m. at the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. (Facial coverings and social distancing will be required.) Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
