In a celebration of community, and charity, local leaders, athletes, and organizations came together for a spirited table tennis fundraiser in support of Mission: Boots to Briefcases, an Warwick-based charity dedicated to helping veterans transition into civilian careers.
Held at Bishop Hendricken High School, the Warwick-based event featured teams representing Hendricken High School, Toll Gate High School, and Pilgrim High School, alongside two Warwick Police teams and various local player groups.
The highlight, however, was the participation of Rhode Island’s political leaders, including the Warwick City Mayor and Cranston City Mayor, multiple City Council Members, State Representatives, State Senators, and the Secretary of State, all picking up paddles for the cause.
One of the main organizers was Warwick Representative Marie Hopkins, who did her best to keep the energy high as the evening’s emcee. And husband, Steve Hopkins played a crucial role in leading volunteers from RI Table Tennis, helping to provide tables, paddles, and other equipment. There were 21 sponsors and partners, and the fundraiser was a resounding success.
Bishop Hendricken High School took home the tournament win, as they brought some strong players including two who played in this year’s Rhode Island High School Championship. Warwick also claimed victory in the exciting Mayor vs. Mayor challenge match, as Mayor Picozzi topped Mayor Hopkins with a raucous crowd cheering them on.
