Unanimously, the Warwick School Committee elected David Testa, pictured, as chair Tuesday evening. He succeeds Judith Cobden who chose not to seek reelection to the committee. Testa heads the 5-member nonpartisan committee that among many issues will be faced with overseeing voter approval to build new Pilgrim and Toll Gate High Schools. Testa said Wednesday he expects to meet Steve Gothberg, Director of Capital & Construction Projects,, this week to review cost projections for the new schools. Voters approved a $350 million bond for the facilities, but before seeking City Council approval for release of the funds, Testa and the department want to ensure the schools can be built for the money. Also unanimously elected by the committee were Shaun Galligan as vice chair and Leah Hazelwood, clerk. Galligan, Hazelwood and Michelle Kirby Chapman are freshmen members of the committee having been elected district representatives in November. (Warwick Beacon photo)
