New schools a good investment

Posted

To the Editor,

Is anyone else excited about the proposed new high schools? I sure am.

I'll admit my own parental bias: I would be ecstatic to send my kids to these schools. Of course, parents want their kids to have a great quality public education. These are the kinds of schools that will draw more families to Warwick. But beyond that, businesses look to relocate to areas with high-quality education: they know happy parents make happy employees. In this way, these schools are an excellent long-term investment in the economic prospects of our entire city.

The existing schools have served for generations, and now it is time to invest for future generations. We want our kids to have access to a high-quality education that prepares them with 21st-century skills. We want our teachers to have access to the cutting-edge facilities that will better enable them to teach those skills.

Spending money on new schools may not seem like a fun way to spend so much money, but a big investment brings big rewards. We know the value of a good education, so let's focus our efforts and money there. I hope our city's leaders value investing our money on important and thoroughly-planned projects like this that will benefit everyone in the city.
