Sharkey Cuts for Kids, a franchise with about 100 stores nationwide, has opened in Warwick at the Stop & Shop shopping plaza on Greenwich Avenue. This is the third store for Justin Thames of New Jersey and his partner Jason Madden who were here Friday for a ribbon cutting – no lack of scissors for the event – and grand opening Saturday. The shop, as the name states, specializes in haircuts for kids and creating an experience that kids not only embrace but look forward to. When the shop opened Saturday,  Owen McDermott picked the flashing police cruiser as his choice of vehicles for a cut from store manager Steffanie England. Owen’s father, John, said his son is nonverbal and usually becomes highly agitated when given a haircut since he doesn’t like being touched. “He likes police and fire,” John said explaining why Owen gravitated to the cruiser. The  haircut was without incident and he was delighted with the blue balloon he was handed when finished. “This is usually a nightmare and it doesn’t have to be,” said his father.  Thrilled with her purple ring after having her nails painted is Aria Champagne. The shop has four stylists and two receptionists and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.  (Warwick Beacon photos)
