A team of eight judges made selections Monday for the first three mile markers to be used in Saturday’s Rocky Point 5K organized by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce from 12 entries drawn by Vets students. Each of the works will be enlarged to an 18 by 24 inch placard by Signs by Tomorrow and be accompanied by the name of a company sponsor. Each of the students won $100. Holding the drawing of third place winner Krista Lom is Vets teacher Karen Larson, who coordinated the school drawing competition and Alexis Rice, second, and Jessia Tyrce, first. The 2nd annual 5K had about 250 registered runners/walkers as of yesterday. The race starts on Rocky Point Avenue at the entrance to Warwick Neck School and takes runners on a loop down Warwick Neck Avenue and across to Palmer Avenue before entering Rocky Point Park and back to the start. Participants can register on Saturday up until the start of the 5K at 10 a.m.
