PENGUIN LESSONS

* * * *

(Based on True Story)

This delightful little movie about a teacher and a penguin may only be at the Avon for a couple of days. It is worth dropping whatever you are doing to get over to the East Side and see it. Hopefully it will play longer at Warwick Showcase.

An Englishman (Steve Coogan) goes to Argentina to teach English in 1976 only to discover that he has arrived during a time of political unrest.

Walking along the beach, he discovers dead penguins covered in oil. He finds one struggling for his life, cleans it up and takes it to his ‘No Pets’ lodging at the school, where it becomes his constant companion.

The penguin becomes a favorite of the staff and students, and changes the students from unteachable to teachable.

Lots of lessons about how we treat one another and an ending that will have you reaching for the Kleenex.

Note: The Avon will be bringing “The Brutalist” back soon. Stay tuned.
