PAL 15’s fall in final

The Warwick PAL 15-year-old team fell in the state championship last week in a 10-2 decision to North Providence.

Austin Wheeler scored the team’s first run in the bottom of the first on a base hit by Donnie Vermette. Tyler Nadeau scored in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder’s choice forced by Vermette.

Vermette and Nadeau accounted for PAL’s three hits in the loss.

“Both teams played clean games in the field. Truly the difference in the game was our bats were just quiet. We didn’t string together enough hits to produce the runs needed to beat a solid NP team,” said PAL coach John Wheeler. “I am super proud of our team for going 2-0 in pool play beating Coventry and North Providence. Boys fought hard in all three games we played and they were a great group of boys to coach.”

Austin Wheeler was handed the Jim Spearman Sportsmanship award for the tournament.
