To the Editor,
Should Warwick Public School students be taking inappropriate surveys that have nothing to do with academic achievement? Concerned parent Tara Levasseur doesn’t think so.(“Mother claims school Panorama program violates federal law”, Sept. 22)
With all the non-academic crap crammed into the public school curriculum is it any wonder test scores in reading and math are so lousy? Dubious diversions like Social Emotional Learning(SEL) and Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity(DIE) programs, along with other meddlesome mandates from the RI Department of Education, leave less time for students to master basic academic skills.
Our students are being shortchanged by a dumbed down curriculum. Abysmal test scores prove that point. Tara Levasseur is correct to identify participation in the Panorama program as part of this problem.
