By ALEX SPONSELLER The Pilgrim boys soccer team rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory over rival Toll Gate while celebrating senior night last Saturday afternoon.

Paolo Frias continued to add to his hot start this season, getting a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Pats in the win.

After a rough season opening loss for the Pats at the hands of Smithfield, Frias and company were determined to right the ship against their cross-town foe.

“I think the first game we weren’t able to get the practice that we needed to get in, so as we have more time, more things will come as a team. They have just been getting me the ball at the center of the box and I score, it’s not just me, my team creates chances for me to score when I’m in the center of the box,” said Frias.

Ryan Annunziata also had another sharp outing with a pair of goals, while Matt Gibeau scored a goal and an assist. Zach DaSilva recorded two assists while Jacob Holland added another. Pilgrim keeper Jayden Pereira made nine saves in net.

Frias hopes that the win will help Pilgrim regain some confidence and propel it toward the top of the division moving forward.

“After they beat us last, we knew that we couldn’t let them get us twice in a row, back to back. We just came out here and wanted it more than them and today we proved it,” said Frias. “It will help us as we go on from game to game now. As long as we don’t get too complacent, I feel that we will be one of the best teams in this division week in and week out.”

Pilgrim was back at it on Monday when it faced East Greenwich. The Avengers would get an early lead and hold off Pilgrim to earn a 3-1 win.

Frias scored Pilgrim’s lone goal while Robert Schmidt added an assist. RJ Ryan and Austin Kilduff combined for six saves in net.

Pilgrim dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss and will now hit the road as it faces Hope on Friday evening. The Pats will get a chance at some revenge when it hosts Smithfield next Wednesday afternoon.
