To the Editor:

As I turn 75, I have a wealth of wisdom that I didn't possess many years ago. I was baptized on the Fourth of July and have always kidded that I am, therefore, a firecracker. I have definitely have always been patriotic. 

That is up until the Biden presidency, when MAGA people and Republicans were punished for their views and their speech. I never wrote any editorials in defense of Trump in those years for fear of retribution. Now Trump is president again and I feel a new surge in patriotism. He held a beautiful event and parade yesterday honoring our nation's 250th birthday of the nation's army. 

I can understand if people don't agree with everything a president has to say. That's fine. That's democracy. But what I don't understand is the ongoing vitriol and hatred of everything that Trump does. 

So while this wonderful positive event was going on honoring our fathers, grandfathers and forefathers and the brave people who died for our country, the Democrats chose to ignore it and protest instead. Couldn't that have been done any other time? They are 364 other days that these could have taken place. People are ignoring their own bloodline and men and women who fought to save this country just to go after this one man? 

It makes no sense to me. The people voted. And we elected, by a big majority, President Trump. Can't you put away your hatred of him for one day to honor your own family members and your country? If you really hate this country, you are free to leave. 

 In this world today, we are always one step away from annihilation. It won't ever again be a war like in the past with missiles and bullets. Israel recently attacked Iran nuclear capabilities. Iran could and was set to send nuclear weapons upon Israel and our own country and could reach our East Coast, namely us. 

 Please come together under this president for your own sakes. How can hatred of one man be more important than the love of our country, our forefathers and ourselves?
