Stolen Vehicle
On June 4 at 6:30 a.m., a WPD officer was dispatched to the area of 15 Jefferson Blvd. for a report of a stolen 2008 Gray Honda Pilot. The vehicle was found parked at the La Quinta Inn at 36 Jefferson Blvd. Dispatched confirmed the stolen vehicle with the East Providence police. The driver said he had taken possession of the vehicle three days previously. The driver said he was borrowing the car and did not know the vehicle was stolen. The driver was taken to WPD headquarters where he was charged with possession of stolen vehicle and receiving stolen goods.
Shoplifting
On May 30 at 6 p.m., a WPD officer was dispatched to Target at 1245 Bald Hill Rd. for a report of shoplifting. The Target loss prevention officer informed the WPD officer that a person was not scanning all their items from the shopping cart at the self-checkout. The person was stopped before the exit by the loss prevention officer. The items that were attempted to be stolen were makeup, Purina cat food, planters and a side table for a total of $284.65. The suspect was taken to the WPD station and issued a summons to appear in District Court on one charge of shoplifting.
DUI
On June 8 at 2 a.m., two WPD officers responded to Bald Hill Road in front of McDonald’s for a check condition emergency. A third party called and advised dispatch that a gray truck was parked sideways in the roadway, and that they had watched the driver turn the vehicle lights on and off several times. Upon arriving on the scene, officers observed a grey Toyota Tacoma parked diagonally in the continuous center turn lane and partially in the left northbound lane on Bald Hill Road. The officers conducted a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on the driver. The driver was taken back to the station and the vehicle was impounded by P&P Towing. At the station, the driver did not consent to a chemical breath test. He was charged with one count of DUI of Liquor – BAC Unknown – 1st Offense, Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test and Places Where Parking/Stopping Prohibited.
