LARCENY
On Dec. 1 at 2 p.m., police were dispatched to TJ Maxx/Homegoods, located at 1245 Bald Hill Rd., for a report of larceny. A woman told police that her mother’s purse was taken from their shopping cart inside the store. The purse contained her mother’s credit cards, cellphone and car keys.
Using the Find My iPhone app, the woman tracked her mother’s phone, which was inside the purse, to the parking lot of Narragansett Village Condominiums, located at 400 Narragansett Parkway. Police were dispatched to the area.
When an officer arrived at the apartment complex, he looked through a trash bin in the parking lot in an attempt to find the purse, but was unable to find it.
Another office arrived on scene and noticed a Jeep Wrangler parked nearby behind 20 feet of bushes. When they approached the vehicle, they observed in plain view several TJ Maxx bags in the front passenger seat.
A woman identified as Ann Pilderian, 60, of 75 Mathewson St., Cranston, said she was the owner of the Jeep. She insisted that she did not have the purse and gave the officers consent to search her vehicle. The empty purse was located in the Jeep.
When officers asked where the contents of the purse were, she said she did not know, before admitting that they were in a small TJ Maxx bag in the trash bin.
Pilderian was arrested and taken to Warwick Police Headquarters. She was issued a court summons for larceny. The stolen items were located and returned to the woman and her mother at police headquarters.
