FENTANYL POSSESSION

On Jan. 30 at 5:19 p.m., a Warwick police officer responded to a call near the intersection of Main Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard for a report of a driver slumped over his steering wheel. The man reportedly woke up and started driving, and the officer located the car again at a gas station on West Shore Road.

The driver, 39-year-old John Laprade of West Warwick, was asleep in the gas station’s parking lot, but woke up when officers tapped on the window. After he stepped out of the vehicle, officers conducted a search of it, with his consent. They said they found a small bag with a white powder in it, after which they placed Laprade in handcuffs.

The officer conducted a field sobriety test and determined that Laprade was sober. Back at the police station, the powder tested positive for fentanyl, and Laprade was charged with possession.

DUI

On Jan. 30 at 9:17 p.m., a Warwick police officer responded to a report about a swerving car on West Shore Road in the Warwick Neck area. Follow-up reports from witnesses said the car had later backed into another car in a parking lot before the driver fled the scene, struck a traffic sign on the Post Road extension, and finally went airborne, striking a curb and popping a tire, in the area of 3600 West Shore Rd..

Officers identified the driver as 39-year-old Alexandria Gallucci of Portsmouth. When officers arrived, Gallucci’s car was in neutral, and she did not respond to officer requests to put her vehicle in park. Eventually, officers removed Gallucci from the vehicle, putting the car in park and turning it off.

Gallucci stated that she had been heading from Portsmouth to CCRI and did not provide officers any other information. After initially stating that she would like to take field sobriety tests, Gallucci, who was barefoot, struggled to put on a pair of boots and did not respond to officers asking if she would still like to take the test. Eventually, she told them that she would not.

Gallucci was arrested and charged with a DUI. While on the way to the station, Gallucci reportedly urinated on herself and spoke incoherently, telling officers asking for her weight that she weighed 560 pounds, which the reporting officer noted was visibly untrue. Gallucci refused to take a breath test.

SHOPLIFTING

On Jan. 24 at 5:40 p.m., a Warwick police officer responded to a report of a shoplifting at the Target store on Bald Hill Road.

A few minutes before, security cameras showed a man stealing what was later determined to be $265 worth of items. He had refused to go to with Target’s loss-prevention agent and instead left the store with the goods, though he left the stolen goods with the agent.

A few minutes after leaving, the man, who identified himself as 41-year-old Andrew Deery of West Warwick, called the store, saying that he felt bad and wanted to return to pay for the items. A Target representative informed Deery that the company would still be pressing charges and told him to go to the Warwick police station.

Deery arrived at the station at 9:25 a.m., admitted to shoplifting and was arrested and charged with shoplifting.
