DUI

On Feb. 26 at 2:16 a.m., a Warwick police officer on patrol noticed a car at the intersection of Airport Road and Post Road backing up. The officer followed the car and noticed erratic driving at around 20 miles per hour over the speed limit, at which point he pulled the car over.

The driver, 25-year-old Kathaleen Blanco of Providence, said that she was heading to Oakland Beach to smoke marijuana, and apologized for reversing in the intersection. Her car reportedly smelled of alcohol, and when asked if she had been drinking that night, she told the officer that she hadn’t, though she later admitted to consuming one margarita and an unspecified amount of marijuana.

After failing field sobriety tests, Blanco was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. While at the station, she took breath tests, determining that she had a breath alcohol content of .109.

On Feb. 26 at 11:24 p.m., WPD officers were dispatched to the I-95 offramp onto East Ave. for reports of a car crashed into a guardrail. When they arrived at the scene, the officers noted that the car was missing its front left tire, and there were no signs of tire debris nearby the crash.

The driver, 37-year-old Sergio Sosa of West Warwick, told officers that he did not know how he crashed his car and said that he was driving home from North Providence. Reportedly, when asked if he had been drinking, Sosa told officers “Not a lot,” before specifying that he had had three or four beers.

Sosa refused to take a field sobriety test. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

On Feb. 25 at 5:25 p.m., a Warwick police officer was stopped at the light in front of the Cumberland Farms on West Natick Road. While doing so, he saw two men walking towards the Cumberland Farms arguing, with a fight eventually breaking out between the two.

The two men were Jeffrey Rodriguez, 31of Cranston and Nicholas Larson, 31 of Cranston. Rodriguez had initiated the fight and attempted to put Larson into a headlock before punching him and pursuing him as Larson tried to run.

The officer noted that Rodriguez was visibly drunk. Larson said that he knew Rodriguez, and that Rodriguez was asking him for money. Larson said that when he told Rodriguez he didn’t have any money, Rodriguez became angry and began fighting him.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with simple assault.

DRIVING WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE

On Feb. 22 at 7:02 p.m., a Warwick police officer on patrol on Sandy Lane saw a car with a trailer that had an expired registration and a nonfunctional taillight.

The driver, Ronald Maynard, 52 of Exeter, told the officer that he did not have his license or the car’s registration on him. Maynard told the officer that the vehicle was unregistered, and that he believed that his license was currently suspended, which a quick check confirmed.

Maynard was arrested and charged for his fourth or greater offense of driving with a suspended license.

DRIVING WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE

On Feb. 26 at 10:06 a.m., a Warwick officer noticed a car going 20 miles per hour over the speed limit on the Post Road extension nearing the Main Ave. bridge. The officer pulled the car over just north of that intersection.

Patrick Ferguson, 31 of West Warwick, was reportedly “acting nervous and dramatic.” Checks confirmed on the vehicle that Ferguson was driving showed that the vehicle was not actively registered. Ferguson himself was driving on a suspended license.
