Reenactor  Mrs. Estelle Tucker Barada will give a costumed portrayal of 19th century Rhode Island entrepreneur Christiana Carteaux Bannister at Warwick Public Library today at 2 p.m.

Christiana Carteaux Bannister (1819–1902), who was known professionally as Madame Carteaux, was a businesswoman, hairdresser, and abolitionist.

Born in North Kingstown to African American and Narragansett Indian parents, she owned salons in Boston and Providence and was a patron to her second husband, artist Edward Mitchell Bannister.

Mrs. Estelle Tucker Barada attended the Harlem School for the Arts, the Dance Theater of Harlem, and Boston Conservatory of Music for Dance and Theater. She is the owner of a Victorian tea corner in Providence.
