President Trump … so far

Posted

To the Editor,

My name is Richard Corrente. I am a confirmed Democrat. I have supported Democrats since John Kennedy introduced the “Income Tax Reduction Act” of 1961. That said, I just couldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. I just couldn’t. Neither was I able to vote for Trump because I found his personality too caustic. (I actually wrote in a candidate for the first time).

This time, however, I did vote for Trump. He was clearly the better choice. And if one-quarter of what he promised came true our country would be far better off. Well, he has been our president now for two months and I have to say “Damn!” He keeps doing exactly what he promised. (Imagine that. A politician that actually keeps his/her promises. What a novelty!)

As for the economy: Gas prices have dropped four weeks in a row; not a lot, but it’s headed in the right direction. Egg prices have decreased by over 30%. Mortgage rates decreased; only slightly, but any decrease is a good decrease. Millions of jobs are coming back to America. Major corporations in the United States are expanding by millions of dollars in the United States! And D.O.G.E. keeps finding waste and fraud which will create many billions reinvested back into our economy. Damn! That is a real plus.

As for foreign affairs: He has brought peace to the Gaza strip and to the Ukraine/Russia situation. Granted it is only temporary at the moment, and it is only partial, but I have to admit, those areas of the world now have a lot fewer innocent people getting killed. We can only pray it continues to improve. And we have President Trump to thank for that.

As for the border: Wow! Even the most loyal Democrats had to admit that the border was a mess. Trump has decreased illegal alien crossings by more than 92%! And Tom Homan is deporting hundreds a day. (Side note: Why do we have to “deport” them? They never filled out any forms, documents or procedures to enter the United States. Why do we need “forms, documents and procedures” to remove them? Instead of “deporting” them, why can’t we just “return” them?)

President Trump has a personality that turns off some people. He’s arrogant, confrontational, combative, condescending, egotistical and comes across like a know-it-all, but you know what? Maybe, just maybe, that’s what America needs right now. Maybe Trump really does know-it-all. Sure looks that way so far. Doesn’t it?

A shout-out: to Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer. Praise and respect for putting your constituents ahead of your loyalty to the Democratic Party, and voting for the Republican-backed bill to keep America funded. That took courage and leadership.

One final comment: I checked into Elon Musk and have carefully added up all the binding decisions he has made for America. The exact number is … zero. He’s made a ton of recommendations, but calling him “President Musk” is wholly unfair. Plus! He’s working for free. Maybe we should lighten up on him too.

Folks … these are my honest thoughts since the election. If you agree, good. If you disagree, cut this section out of The Warwick Beacon. Just make sure you read the overleaf page first so you don’t miss anything important.

Happy Easter, everyone.
