I wouldn’t touch a chicken finger with a ten-foot pole.
And then I broke down and went to Raising Cane’s and experienced an attitude adjustment.
My previous experience with chicken fingers had been at a fast-food chain, where the rubbery, tasteless product turned me off.
Chicken fingers were not for me. They were for kids who went out to eat with their parents where restaurants had added them to the kids’ menu.
Along came Raising Cane’s, built quickly on the spot of a former Chinese restaurant across from the Warwick Mall (336 Bald Hill Rd.)
I broke down this week and stopped at the brightly designed restaurant, where cars were lined up at the drive-through and people inside were ordering take-out and eat-in.
Most were ordering the popular combos, which included the Three Finger Combo, consisting of 3 chicken fingers, fries, sauce, Texas toast and a small drink for $9.59.
For $16.59, you can get 6 fingers, fries, sauce, cole slaw and a large drink.
You can buy 100 fingers for $142.99, enough to feed an entire Cub Scout Pack.
Being extremely apprehensive, I ordered 2 fingers at $2.29 each and sauce at 49 cents. I think the compassionate employee thought I was down on my luck. He gave me a free soda.
The chicken fingers arrived in a few minutes. They looked like a couple of fried smelts.
I dipped one in the special creamy sauce, and I was in chicken heaven.
Piping hot. Lightly breaded. Tender. Tasty. Terrific.
I’ll be back!
Raising Cane’s is open every day until midnight. Their phone number is 228-9487.
