Ronald Eric Messier, of Warwick, RI was born on April 9, 1936, in Providence, the son of the late Eric ans Doris (Benoit) Messier. He was the husband of Shirlee A. Lombardo and the late Jane (Jarbeau) Messier.
Ron was an Air Force Veteran during the Korean War and a graduate of West Warwick High School, New England Technical Institute and Johnson and Wales. He worked as a supervisor at the Naval Air Rework Facility at Quonset Point and as a Branch Supervisor in the East Hartford Federal Contract Administration Office, retiring in 1994. He was a devout Catholic, and an active member of St. Joseph’s Church, West Warwick. He served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and past President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society where he leaves many friends and golf buddies.
He was in the St. Joseph’s golf league at West Warwick Country Club, and served as their league treasurer for many years. He loved to golf with his league and travel to tournaments with them.
He was an active volunteer and board member of the West Warwick Assistance Agency, The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Friendly Visitors Programs, The Meals on Wheels Program of Connecticut, the American Legion Post 2 and the Pontiac Village Association. He was interested in his French-Canadian ancestry and researched his family history at the American-French Genealogical Society and was also a board member of the Pawtuxet Valley Preservation and Historical Society,.
He and Shirlee spent March in Belleaire Beach, FL every year, where he golfed and enjoyed cocktail hours with his FL friends. He enjoyed travelling and each year on his trip to FL he liked to visit his brother-in-law Richard Jarbeau and his family in Georgia, with a stop at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers, GA to visit his cousin, Brother Michael Lautieri. He made excellent martinis but couldn’t cook well on the grill. He loved going to live music shows, blues mostly, and out to dinner at various local restaurants. He loved Shirlee’s Italian cooking and only ever wanted “just a little bit” of dessert. He took care of the pool but never swam and enjoyed evenings and summer gatherings with his extended family. He was a sports lover, watching golf tournaments, and rooting for the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and PC basketball. He was an avid reader and could often be found sitting in his comfy chair reading fiction and non-fiction.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 9:00-9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick, followed by a Mass of Christaon Burial at 9:30 p.m. (all State Covid-19 guidelines will be observed).
Due to the pandemic, interment with Military Honors in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be Private for the family.
