Ronald “Ron” D. Newman, age 71 of Warwick, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 2, 2021, with his wife by his side. He was the loving husband of Kathryn A. (Wood) Newman for forty (40) years and the cherished father of Heather M. Preuit and Kristina A. Bercher. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Edward and Joyce (Smith) Newman of Warwick.

Ron worked as an electrician for both Champ’s Electric and Fielding Electric for a total of forty years before retiring and enjoying life working around the house “fixing things” and spending time with his family. He especially loved watching his grandchildren play soccer and sitting with them watching movies, playing games, and just being grandpa. He was a devoted father and grandfather, never hesitating to be the “Taximan” for them. Ron enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, and looked forward to going on a yearly cruise or two with his wife and friends. As a young man, Ron was a semi-pro bowler and always a New England sports fan. His other great love was his greyhounds. He spoiled them just like he did his grandchildren. Ron was a Past Master of St. Andrews Lodge and a current member of Jenks Lodge No. 24, F & AM, Riverside. He was also a dedicated member of Signet Chapter No. 21, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Rhode Island Grand Chapter, twice, and a General Grand Chapter Committee Member, O.E.S., during the 2003-2006 triennium.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his six adoring grandchildren: Elizabeth, Abigail, Connor, Aiden, Owen, and Aria Preuit; his brothers Kenneth Newman and Richard Newman and wife Marian; and his father-in-law Richard L. Wood.

Due to the current conditions with Covid-19, all services will be private. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date for family and friends to safely gather in his memory.
