The Citizens Police Academy fall session got under way Sept. 30 at headquarters with a class of more than 20. Under the direction of Officer Dan Maggiacomo, the academy that meets weekly with a graduation on Dec. 16. The class will get an inside view of police operations including a session at the range, emergency vehicle driving, introduction to prosecution; demonstration from the K9 unit, processing of a crash and DUI arrest and insights on how the department deals with domestic violence and mental health. Graduates of the academy are not police officers and do not have arrest powers or can identify themselves as law enforcement officers.
