With Mayor Joseph Solomon calling for a curfew Tuesday starting at 8 p.m. in response to social media reports of possible demonstrations and looting, as occurred in Providence, the Warwick Mall closed early and police and members of the National Guard closed off the parking lot and were posted outside the mall. The city Department of Public Works moved heavy equipment to block entrances to the mall. In an email Col. Rick Rathbun said there were no arrests for violation of the curfew that ended at 5 a.m. and to his recollection this was the first ever curfew issued by the administration. During storms the city has advised residents to stay home and avoid driving. He said there were “isolated incidents” where police responded but did not offer details. (Warwick Beacon photo)
