The three 6th grade teams at Winman Middle School celebrated an Egyptian Showcase on Friday, January 17 hosted by grade 6th grade social studies teachers Valerie Fiano, Karen Livsey and Mary Beth DiSanto. Over 300 parents, family members and guests were in attendance that morning. “Students celebrated a major component of our studies on ancient civilizations,” Fiano said. “They all amazingly demonstrated their skills of inquiry and research while immersing themselves in everything Ancient Egypt.” The students studied Egyptian geography, society, religious beliefs, innovations and lasting contributions still used today. The students also shared a "shoebox sarcophagus,” a short presentation about their Egyptian identity, daily life, mummification process and burial chamber. Students were asked to complete a research report and, of course, an amazing costume where they took on the role of the Egyptian person they spent time researching.
