TRAINING FOR WHAT’S TO COME: Peter Swan swings through one of the courses provided by Laid-Back Fitness as a sampling of what will come New Year’s Day at Goddard Park as part of the Frozen Clam Dip and Obstaplunge. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. on January 1 and for those daring the dip will be held at noon. The Obstaplunge, which is a half-mile “American Ninja Warrior” style obstacle course, will also take place at noon and the participants will finish the course with their own jump into the bay. Registration can be done online prior to the event at mentorri.networkforgood.com/events/4328-the-2018-frozen-clam-dip-obstaplunge.

BRACELETS AND CARDS: Samantha Phillips, daughter of mentor staff member Nicole Lewis, managed one of two craft tables where kids – adults got to do it, too – made glittering crafts. Working on their projects are Sofia DiChiara and her older sister, Victoria, and looking on is Mentor staff member, Christopher Maradonna.

Mentor Rhode Island staff and volunteers seemed to be everywhere at Barnes & Noble Saturday offering shoppers and their children to listen to stories read by local celebrities, make crafts and even get their gifts wrapped. Barnes & Noble reciprocated providing a percentage from each sale going to Mentor Rhode Island when the purchaser requested it.
